Follow Me Here came from watching two swans move quietly through dark water, one following the other through reflections, mossy greens and flashes of light. I wanted the painting to feel less like a portrait of swans and more like the feeling of being drawn somewhere, of trusting the movement ahead of you. I painted it loosely and intuitively, allowing the water, foliage and reflections to dissolve into one another rather than explaining every detail.
 
This piece feels like another important step into the looser language that has been emerging in my work. The swans remain calm and luminous inside all that movement, almost guiding the eye through the painting. In person, the blues and greens are especially rich, with unexpected areas of gold and light that seem to shift as you stand in front of it. It has a quiet pull to it, the kind of painting that asks you to come closer and follow.
