My slowest but most detailed painting of my career.
This painting has been a work in progress because on this one, there is no sketch, plan or direction. I am painting it completely by intuition, study and patience. Some days I can't stand it, and then weeks later, I'm in love with it again after a few edits. I want to display it at our next event in two weeks, but my heart says it's still "IN PROGRESS" so there will be an in progress sign under it. It's not ready yet, but measuring 30x40 it packs a dramatic statement of mixing tropical flora with nature and it makes me very happy to create a mystical and vibrant scene of these elements coming to life with color, dimension and the interactiveness between each element.
The frog, looks up at the bird, the leaves, point to the large bird, nestling amongst the beautiful florals taking a rest on a magnolia branch. A lot of these elements are mixed together, for example, a lilly may not be found in a tropical forest, and a magnolia may not either, but in reality they could and in fantasy, they completely can! This is what I love about art, it doesn't have to be literal, it's imaginative, it's creative, it's mystical. This painting makes you want to step into this secret society of nature and this piece gives you a glimpse of that often private world amongst our busy lives.
